When I started Compass Mortgages back in 2004, I had a simple vision. I wanted to help people and find the best mortgages for them. Really good, honest communication was vital, as was in-depth knowledge of the Market, to give people the most appropriate advice and ensure they knew exactly what their options were.
Because of the complicated and stressful nature of buying property, I like to support my clients throughout the whole mortgage process. For me, going that extra mile is an essential ethos for this business and I’m delighted to say my team has embraced this attitude too. Ongoing contact with clients is essential to achieving this, we’ve found, so we don’t just set up a mortgage for someone and leave them to it, we keep in touch and update them on new information like changing rates, different products and other important factors.
My key to success is to establish long term, trusted relationships with our clients where they can come to us with any mortgage or insurance needs and receive good honest advice.
As the front line of contact with the clients, I get the satisfaction of seeing how pleased people are when we pull out all the stops and get them a mortgage that really works for them. Being able to support them through the whole process of organising a mortgage means we can build a good relationship and that’s the part of the job I really enjoy.
It’s interesting too. Previously, I worked for a conveyancing solicitor, for around 10 years, so had seen that part of the property-buying process. Now being a part of the stage before that, securing a mortgage, is fascinating as there are so many variables and it’s quite exciting waiting to see if people will be accepted or not.
I see my job as very important because I have the most contact with the clients so can help resolve issues, update them and take some of the stress out of the process to help them along the journey to owning their dream home.
Coming from a 16-year career in utilities, I decided to put my skills to better use by becoming a mortgage advisor. Building relationships with clients and having them put their trust in me to help them get the right mortgage is immensely satisfying and is a job I feel proud of.
My first mortgage advisor position was with a large firm which taught me a great deal and allowed me to learn a lot about the industry but I felt much more at home when I joined Compass Mortgages in 2018 as their passion for helping people really matched my own.
Building rapport with clients, working closely as a team and making sure every client receives the level of service they deserve makes me enjoy my job so I’m looking forward to meeting new clients in the future.
I see arranging mortgages as a bit like putting together a jigsaw puzzle and I like puzzles. Working closely with clients to fit all the pieces of the complicated mortgage market and lending criteria together to come up with the perfect mortgage solution for them is great.
When I first started working for Compass Mortgages, I was part of the admin team and enjoyed building relationships with our clients to help them through the whole process so it went as smoothly and effortlessly as possible. Helping both the mortgage advisers and the customers gave me a real insight into how it all worked and I loved hearing all the positive feedback from our clients.
The opportunity then arose for me to become a mortgage adviser so, naturally, I jumped at it and have been guiding clients through the entire mortgage process ever since. We are an efficient and personable team and I’m very glad to be a part of it.
Working in the financial services industry since 1993 has given me a great deal of experience and knowledge of the mortgage market but, joining Compass Mortgages just after it was established, allowed me to focus on providing an outstanding personalised service to my clients.
Originally, I had worked for large long-standing companies like Prudential, Friends Provident and Pearl Assurance but eventually I was headhunted to establish a new Brighton office for John Charcol which lead to six successful years as an Independent Financial Advisor.
When individuals try to organise a mortgage for themselves, they can potentially waste a lot of time and money by shopping around and encountering so many complicated options. That’s why I aim to provide professional, expert mortgage and protection advice to save my clients this trouble.
Back when I started working in financial service in 1991, most people organised mortgages by going into their local bank or building society. Times have changed, branches have closed and automated telephone systems have made it difficult for people to get to speak to a potential lender or insurance company. That’s why I wanted to make organising a mortgage an easier and less stressful experience by offering my clients a personalised and convenient service.
People often find it difficult to take time off to meet a mortgage broker in person and/or sign paperwork so I am happy to conduct meetings at our local office in Steyning or in a client’s home. Being easily available by phone or email also means I can keep clients informed of every stage of the process and can answer questions or concerns quickly.
Working for Compass Mortgages allows me to focus on looking after my new and existing clients in a way that offers them the best possible service. It makes me feel good to know I’m providing my clients with the most appropriate ways to finance their home or protect their family.
